Golden Gloves- breaking down perceptions around boxing
Today GOGA visited the Golden Gloves initiative created by Evolve CIC in partnership with Get Out Get Active Nottingham and Nottingham City Homes. The programme aims at bringing the local community toghether, breaking down perceptions around boxing and making the sport accessible to all.
The Community event took place at Strelley Social Club, Nottingham, between 10am – 12pm on Thursday 21st Feburary. The event was a fun, friendly session open to all abilities giving people the opportunity to try a new activity for the first time. The sessions were lead by Gary Bulmer, who runs Strelley Amateur Boxing Club and Bill Chambers GOGA Nottingham volunteer. The sessions were well attended by many families and youngsters having ago.
The Community Golden Gloves sessions will launch from the following week with the first session being on Thursday 28th February 10.30am - 11.30pm, also at Strelley Social Club. As with the community event these sessions will be low impact, non-contact, fun boxing sessions suitable for all. As well as an opportunity to get active the sessions will be an opportunity to meet new people.
